20th seed Blue gave it a valiant effort Tuesday night before a rowdy partisan crowd at Barrington Ice Arena, but ultimately fell 5-2 to the 13th seed Barrington in a 1st round Blackhawk Cup game. Senior Goalie Charlie Hackley made 31 saves, many in spectacular fashion, to keep New Trier in the game. Blue held their own with Barrington through most of the first period, but the Broncos finally broke through in the final minutes to take a 1-0 lead with a few minutes remaining. Barrington extended that lead to 4-0 in the 2nd period before Doug Smart found himself alone with the puck with the Bronco goalie out of position, and cut the lead to 4-1. Barrington made it 5-1 in the 3rd before Jesse Arnold closed out the scoring for New Trier on a nice feed from Ben Powell. Besides Hackley and Powell, seniors Thomas Parsons, Will & Charlie Cohn, Eric Kogan, Joey Pesavento and Taylor Rammelt closed out their successful New Trier Hockey careers. Thank you seniors and Go New Trier!
