The Green Team was fired up on Saturday night in Lincolnwood looking for some payback after losing the first Quad game to Loyola back in December.
With some new system changes to the offense and new line combinations, Green had some great scoring chances early on in the first period, but the Rambler goalie turned them all aside.
Loyola struck first on a rebound goal to give Loyola a 1-0 lead. The play was even until the second period when Jason Kuker stole the puck from the Loyola defender and came in hard from the right side. With his head up, he found Brent Segvich on the back door and fed him with a beautiful pass for the tap in.
The game went back and forth until it was Segvich again. This time Brent kept working in front of the Loyola net and slammed in his own rebound. The joyous celebration was short lived, as just 9 seconds later Loyola tied the score at 2-2 at the end of regulation.
The game then went to a shootout with each side choosing three players. Brad Glass was up first and went in hard and scored to the low blocker side. Loyola's first shooter also scored.
Next up for Green was senior captain Matt Solberg who also scored with a beautiful high wrist shot over the blocker. Loyola's second shooter was stopped by Merens.
Green’s third shooter did not score, so that left the game up to Jared Merens with Green leading the shootout 2-1. Loyola's third shooter came in from the right side and went across to his left but Merens was up to the task. As Jared made the save, Green’s bench emptied onto the ice for a huge celebration. Way to go Green!
