Congratulations to former New Trier Green defenseman (2011-2012) Daniel Walcott
on being drafted by the New York Rangers in the 5th round (140th overall pick) of the 2014 NHL draft.
It was a brisk fall day, one perfect for homecoming festivities and warm sweaters but the players from the NTHC had other things on their agenda for the day. On Saturday October 19th players from all four boys teams and both girls teams collected donations for the Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation and raised a record breaking amount to help children and families afflicted by this devastating illness. Grand Foods in Glencoe and Winnetka, Walgreens in Wilmette, Glencoe and Northfield, Dominick's , Panera Bread in Wilmette and Winnetka and the Original House of Pancakes all lent a hand with our collection.
Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation was started in 1992 by Kathleen Casey as her son Barrett "Bear" Krupa courageously fought his battle with Wilms Tumor, a childhood cancer. Bear eventually succumbed to the disease but through the efforts of the Foundation many other families now have hope. Bear Necessities supports both patients and their families as well as research designed to find an cure and eliminate pediatric cancers .
