Hello Trevians!
Thanks to so many of you for reaching out to me. I am grateful for your support and I simply could not be any more excited about the future of NT Hockey.
As the new Hockey Director, my mission is to make our club the best Tier 2 high school program in North America. To reach that goal we, of course, need our players playing their best hockey with dedicated coaches encouraging and guiding them along the way. Our Coaching staff will be a cohesive unit that shares ideas, systems and drills to have all teams developing and reaching their potential. Our goal is to prepare each player for their next step, whether that’s at New Trier, college or elsewhere.
To reach our goal we also need to build our culture as a club, that means every player, coach and family. My objective is to create a culture where players and families are in this together, as one club; a culture where we support one another and value being a part of our community; a culture that is built on hard work and combines winning, sportsmanship and conduct on and off the ice. A culture that values dedication, integrity and teamwork as much as it does “winning.”
New Trier has had some of the winningest teams and coaches in Illinois and playing for our club is a badge of honor. The memories and friendships that our players develop last forever. I will do everything in my power to make sure each of you has an experience that you will cherish.
I will be conducting one on one preseason player meetings leading up to tryouts. These are for all players who intend to tryout this season. A signup sheet will be posted shortly with dates and times.
Also, many of you have already signed up for the New Trier conditioning clinics. If you have not yet done so, please make sure you get your registration in before July 31st as we cannot accept players after that.
While I know most of you, if we have not yet met, please introduce yourself when the opportunity presents itself. I look forward to seeing you all around the rink soon.
Enjoy your summer and GO TREVS!
Warm Regards,
Coach Cheris
Dear New Trier Hockey Families:
We are excited to announce that Adam Cheris has accepted the offer to be our next hockey director and coach. For those of you that do not know Adam, you can ask your hockey player about him. Adam has coached travel teams at Winnetka and Wilmette and every team at New Trier from Junior Varsity to Green over the last five years. Adam also played for Winnetka Warriors, New Trier, Avon Old Farms and played college hockey at D-III Skidmore from 1989-1993. In addition to this impressive hockey background, Adam is a high-integrity person who will lead by example as he promotes a healthy hockey culture founded on principles of hard work, accountability, excellence, dignity, and respect on and off the ice.
We would also like to thank the members of the search committee (John McAdams, Mindy Douthit, Phil Olson, Nancy Glass, and Chip Kenyon) and Mitch Ornstein for their diligence in this process in which they considered more than eighty candidates, conducted forty interviews, and presented the entire board with a slate of excellent candidates for final consideration.
Please join us in congratulating Coach Cheris on this fantastic opportunity.
Regards,
Jamie Rabinowitz

New Trier Green Varsity finished in 2nd place in Division I of USA Hockey's High School National Championship on Monday, April 19. They went 3-0 in pool play and moved on to the quarterfinals to beat Jesuit College Prep, (Texas), Next, they faced off the semifinals versus Santa Margarita (California) and won 7-1 to advance to the championship game against the Springfield Cardinals of Massachusetts. It was a tough fought battle and unfortunately they came up short 0-3 to the Cardinals. Congratulations to our players and we are proud of your accomplishments this season!
The 2020-21 New Trier Hockey Club players are wearing amber ribbons on their helmets to show support for appendix cancer in memory of Thomas Sampson, father of Carter (Green) and Matthew (Gray), who passed away on November 19, 2020. His courage and strength were an example to all who knew him. His competitive spirit and pride for New Trier hockey lives on through his boys. Rest in peace, Tom.
Despite the COVID pandemic New Trier Hockey Players rallied together (social distancing and masks in all) to continue an 11-year tradition. New Trier Hockey players enjoyed a beautiful fall day scattered across the local community in an effort to fight pediatric cancer. Due to social distancing guidelines collection day locations were cut in half. Players from all six teams – Green, Blue, White, Gray, Junior Varsity 1 and Junior Varsity 2, - helped to raise both funds and awareness on behalf of the Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation. Cash donations, both collected at various local merchants throughout the community, as well as an online campaign, totaled $12,730 this year (and over $67,000 to date). The money raised will help to make Bear Hugs and other great programs for kids and their families fighting cancer, possible across Illinois.
Thank you again to those NT Hockey families that supported our endeavor and to the local business which graciously allowed us to solicit funds outside of their venues.
