Spring Hockey

Spring rosters are posted on TEAM pages (menu bar at top of website homepage). Once on TEAM page, see ROSTER on the left side of screen as well as team calendar for schedule. Note practices begin on Tuesday and the first skills sessions will be on Sunday, April 7.

Join us for the spring hockey season! The New Trier Hockey Club offers a combined skills and games program that will keep players on the ice in a competitive and fun environment, under the guidance and direction of current New Trier Varsity and Junior Varsity coaches. 

Although dependent on registration numbers, we typically field four Varsity teams and three Junior Varsity teams for the spring season. Teams will play 1-2 games per week against other local high school programs from the regular season Scholastic Hockey League (SHL) and the Illinois High School Hockey League (IHSHL).

There will be weekly skill sessions on Sundays. The program has been enhanced this spring to include drills for body contact, offense and defense situational play and developmental strategy. Players will be assigned a session based on ability / team placement.

Evaluation / tryout skates will begin March 6 and will conclude by March 21. All players should expect to skate 2-3 times in the 2 week period. More information about tryout times, days, and groups will be communicated after registration closes. Coaches from all regular season New Trier teams will be in attendance to evaluate and place players on spring teams. The teams will be tiered by ability and facing competition commensurate to that ability. 

The number of registered participants will determine the number of teams we roster. There is no guarantee of a spot for every interested player or that each player will make the team he desires. 

Registration Fees include (see season information on to the right of screen):

• Tryout skates (players will skate 2-3 times during the tryout period)
• Roughly ten games against teams New Trier competes with during the winter season.
• Two team practices at the start of the spring season in April. Days / times will be communicated post tryouts.  
• Weekly Sunday skills sessions run by New Trier coaches from all five teams.

Spring Jersey (if needed): $70

Spring reversible jerseys must be purchased during the registration process. There will be an option to choose size and skater or goalie at check out. Most skaters wear a 2XL and most goalies wear a 4XL. XL (smaller skaters) and 3XL (smaller goalies) are also available. If players are unsure of size to order, the Wilmette Bike Shop has the reversible samples available to try on. Please bring shoulder pads to ensure accurate fit.

We understand that many players have other commitments during the spring season and participation in a NT spring sport and academics come first. Our program is meant to be flexible with other spring obligations. If you are concerned as to whether or not your player should participate this spring, please feel free to reach out to either Adam Cheris or Rob Malstrom.
