Tryouts / Regular Season

The Tryout / Regular Season registration will consist of two steps.

  1. Tryout Registration: This process captures all necessary information, acknowledgment of NTHC policies and collection of Physical Exam Form (see below requirements)
  2. Roster Acceptance: Once offered a roster spot, a player has 24 hours to accept the team placement. The first 1/3 of the season fees are due at this time (see below payment structure details).

IMPORTANT: Before you begin your tryout registration, please make sure you have the following completed:

USA Hockey Number: Players will need to register and obtain a current USA Hockey number for the upcoming season. Click Here to register.

Current Health Exam (clearance to play sports) Form: All players need a current health exam or clearance to play sports form on file. Exams / forms are valid for one calendar year and need to be signed by the player's physician. If your player's health expires mid-season, you will need to submit a new form at that time. Click Here for a blank health exam form or reach out to your player's MD for a copy. When uploading, please scan 2 page forms and save as single document. Crossbar only allows uploads of one page or one document.

SafeSport: All 2006 & 2007 players will need to complete SafeSport Training prior to tryouts (no exceptions). Training is valid for one year. Any player who took the Core Training last season will only take the refresher course. You will need your new USA Hockey number to access the training. Click Here for SafeSport Training Program. You will be asked for confirmation of completion during registration. If you do not see your course, refresh the page until it populates. It can sometimes take a few attempts to be visible. Per USA Hockey, we cannot officially roster 2006 & 2007 players without completion of Safesport.

Eligibility

Any Freshman - Senior attending New Trier High School for the current school year is eligible to tryout for NTHC teams.

All players need a new USA Hockey # and a current health form.

All 2006 and 2007 players need to complete SafeSport Training

Tryouts

Tryouts begin the Saturday before school starts and the same day as the Kick Off Meeting. See specific season information / dates on to the right side of screen.

Returning players will wear their game jerseys for tryouts. Players new to Club will be given a tryout pinny. Players assigned a pinny should keep this throughout the duration of tryouts. Once a player has completed their tryout, the pinny will be collected.

New Tier coaches will place players into groups and assign ice times. The first day tryout groups will be posted immediately following the Kick Off meeting. Groups are likely to change through the tryout process and will be communicated daily.

Season Duration

Tryouts begin the Saturday before classes start for New Trier High School. The season runs through mid-March depending on results of league and AHAI State Tournament.

New Trier Hockey Club teams practice 2-3 times / week and typically play 1-2 games / week.

Financial Statement / Season Fees

Hockey is a team sport that requires a significant financial and time commitment on the part of both the player and his family. Each family should evaluate before the start of the season, their ability to meet their obligations to the club as well as to the team. The cost of playing hockey has increased year to year due to higher ice costs, league fees, referee costs, coaching salaries, tournament entry, transportation, team equipment, and off-ice training.

At NTHC we make every effort to field our teams in the most cost-effective manner while giving our players every opportunity to participate at the highest level possible.

See specific season details on right side of screen.

Payment Structure

The first 1/3 of the season fees are due when a roster spot is accepted. The remaining balance (2/3 of season fees) will be spread out over 4 installments in Oct, Nov, Dec, and Jan.

Extra Costs

Once teams are rostered, there will be a team fund collection to cover expenses like team activities and other team-related events. Families should plan for this expense. The expectation is it is paid within 3 weeks of the team offer. The amount varies by team with Green Varsity being the highest.

Financial Assistance

The Club has two ways to offset the cost of hockey.

The first is through selling sponsorships in the Club’s annual Sponsor book. As in past years, 50% of the sponsor revenue (less certain deductions) generated by a player will be used to offset that player’s fee. An enterprising player can offset 100% of their player fee through this program. In addition, the club offers financial aid under certain circumstances.

Second, NTHC has a scholarship program to support families needing financial assistance. Please see the Alex Pegler Fund info and / or contact the NTHC Treasurer. Please contact Dennis McGreal, Club Treasurer at dennismcgreal@yahoo.com for more information or to apply. Such requests will be maintained in confidence.

Frequently Asked Questions

If I played this past spring season with NTHC, should I wear my spring reversible jersey?

No, NTHC will give any players who have not played a regular season with us a tryout pinny to be worn for all tryouts.

What if my health form expires mid-season?

No problem. Please turn in a health form that was completed by your physician sometime within the last year. If it expires mid-season, we ask that you submit the new form after your physical.

I am a 2006 or 2007 player. I completed my Safesport Training but did not get a confirmation?

Safesport sends a confirmation e-mail once the training is completed but it can be delayed. The Registrar will be able to see if players have completed the training during the rostering process. NT Hockey will NOT be able to roster any 2006 or 2007 players if they have not completed their Safesport Training.
